Part 1: How can I make my earphones last more time?
Earphones are a vital part of contemporary music. Within the dire old days, headphones were attached to stationary turntables and the one transportable music emanated chiefly from ‘Ghetto Blasters’, which a style of portable tape player, such as one which incurs the wrath of Mr. Spock in Star Trek IV, the one with the whales.
This basically meant that if you ever wanted to listen to some music whilst out and about, (and lets face it, who does not?) everybody else within the direct vicinity required to listen to it also.
These days, as any peep out of our closest window must inform you, virtually everybody is playing music inconspicuously and comfortably with the use of iPods, MP3 players and what-have-you. However, your headphones, the supply of your auditory enjoyment (see what I did there? nyuk nyuk) are much like your clothing or your vehicle in they go all over the place with you and infrequently need some TLC to keep them running for longer.
Wear and tear could be the main killer of earphones (unless, like me, you park yourself on them after they’re within your bag whilst at work…D’oh!) and as such, you will need to be aware to those following dangers.
1) Winding: wrapping your headphones all-around your MP3 player might appear to be a great way to stow them, but be careful of wrapping it up too tightly. If yo happen to wrap the cables too tightly or rigidly, you are likely to tear the silicon wiring inside, this will cause lasting damage with the wires, resulting in loss of quality or whole loss of sound totally.
2) Fluids: Your headsets may seem water resistant, but in truth, they are not. If the speakers absorb fluid, this can warp them permanently, distorting all future music. Rain you are able to handle, but be cautious of sweat when running or exercising and, obviously, be careful for spilled drinks.
3) Heat: For the similar reason that fluids are shocking (but additionally with an added threat to the wiring) excessive heat is an incredibly poor thing for earphones. Stay away from leaving them in the path of direct sunlight for very long, or seeking to microwave them whilst drunk.
Caring for the headphones is a relatively simple task, if the music becomes distorted, its sometimes a good idea to wash out the speakers using a dry cotton bud, just dabbing away at the grease or make up which could build up in there. If the matter persists, run the cotton bud under some lukewarm water and take a look at cleaning out your ears. That sometimes works.
